Amid escalating violence during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest, the federal government has deployed the army in the capital.

The Interior Ministry issued a notification under Article 245, empowering the military to decisively maintain order and handle miscreants. This includes the authority to implement curfews as needed to suppress lawlessness.

Sources report that security forces are now authorized to use lethal force against troublemakers on sight. Efforts are underway to identify all miscreants for prosecution, aiming to counter terrorist activities from disruptive and extremist groups.

This action follows a severe incident on Srinagar Highway where PTI supporters reportedly attacked Rangers personnel with a vehicle, killing four and injuring five, along with two police officers.

Security officials report that these attacks have resulted in the deaths of four Rangers and two police officers, with over 100 police personnel injured, some critically, highlighting the severity of the unrest.

PTI supporters have converged on the federal capital, responding to the imprisoned party leader’s call to gather at D-Chowk and stay until authorities meet their demands, including the release of the jailed former premier.

To control the situation, a security lockdown has been in effect in the federal capital for two days. It aims to stop PTI convoys led by KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur. Access to the city has been restricted by barricaded highways.

The government has strategically placed shipping containers to block major roads and streets in Islamabad, patrolled by significant police and paramilitary forces in riot gear.

Recently, the party founded by Imran Khan has repeatedly marched on the federal capital, resulting in clashes with law enforcement agencies.
