Islamabad: The federal budget sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate have been summoned for June 5 in Islamabad.
The President’s House confirmed that President Asif Ali Zardari summoned both houses for proceedings linked to the 2026-27 federal budget. The National Assembly will meet at 5 pm, while the Senate will convene at 6 pm the same day.
The sessions had earlier been expected on June 1. However, they were delayed after more than 60 lawmakers travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj.
The lawmakers are expected to return in the first week of June. This is leading the government to adjust the budget schedule, according to the report.
The dates could change again if proposed Iran-United States talks are held in Islamabad during the same period.
The government plans to complete budget deliberations and adopt the proposals by June 24, according to the report. Under the constitution, the budget must be passed before June 30 to take effect on July 1.

The Ministry of Finance’s Regulation Wing has proposed three ad hoc options for salary and pension increases. They suggested 5%, 7.5%, and 10% for public-sector employees and retired personnel.
The final decision is expected to depend on inflation trends. The average CPI-based inflation rate for the outgoing fiscal year is projected at around 7.5%.
The report said the government was also set to introduce the Defined Contributory Pension system for armed forces personnel in the upcoming budget.
Coalition partner, the Pakistan People’s Party, has urged the government to approve a 20% increase in salaries and pensions for government employees.
