Fact Check: Viral PAF Escort Video Falsely Linked to Iran

A PAF Iranian delegation fact check has found that viral footage shared on social media is being falsely linked to a recent Iranian diplomatic visit. In reality, the video is old and shows Pakistan Air Force fighter jets escorting the aircraft of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during his official visit to Pakistan in February 2019.

The clip is authentic, but the claim attached to it is misleading. Recent posts incorrectly suggest that the visuals depict an Iranian delegation being escorted during the current regional diplomatic activity. Independent verification confirms the footage has no connection to Iran or to any recent diplomatic mission. Instead, it dates back to the 2019 visit of the Saudi crown prince, when the PAF escort formed part of a ceremonial welcome.

That earlier context is important. Without it, old footage can easily be repackaged to support false or exaggerated narratives online. The misleading posts rely on genuine footage but misrepresent its timing and subject.

Some versions of the claim go further, adding unsupported suggestions about advanced surveillance capabilities. However, the available verification shows the video predates current geopolitical developments. As a result, it cannot be evidence of any recent Iranian delegation visit.

This case reflects a broader pattern of misinformation, in which old videos are recirculated with new captions to create confusion around sensitive regional issues. The claim that Pakistan Air Force jets escorted an Iranian delegation is false. The footage is real, but it has been taken out of context.

It originally shows the February 2019 visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Pakistan, not any recent development involving Iran.
