Egypt’s FIFA complaint proceedings began on Wednesday after the Egyptian Football Federation asked FIFA to investigate the referees from its 3-2 World Cup defeat to Argentina.
The federation said President Hany Aburida filed the complaint against French referee Francois Letexier and the full officiating team.
Egypt accused the referees of “serious refereeing mistakes” and “double standards,” according to the federation’s statement.
The dispute centred on a ruled-out Mostafa Ziko goal when Egypt led 1-0. VAR intervened after spotting a foul on Lisandro Martinez earlier in the move.
Ziko later put Egypt 2-0 ahead before Cristian Romero and Lionel Messi brought Argentina level.
Egypt also said it should have received a stoppage-time penalty before Enzo Fernandez scored Argentina’s winner. The federation cited an alleged pull by Alexis Mac Allister on Hamdy Fathy.
The federation said Aburida demanded an investigation into the referee, assistants and VAR officials. It also asked FIFA to remove the crew from the World Cup if the mistakes were proven.

Egypt coach Hossam Hassan made similar claims after the match. He told reporters Egypt had been treated unfairly and said the team had not seen “respect or fair play.” Hassan also told BeIN Sports that external factors may have helped
