Today, the national election authority will address the allocation of reserved legislative seats to the Sunni Ittehad Council during a hearing. The session, led by Sikander Sultan Raja and four others, is set for 10 am in Islamabad. Notices have been sent to key individuals for this initial discussion.

The Sunni Ittehad Council, recently allied with former independents from PTI, seeks recognition in the National Assembly and Punjab’s legislature. This follows a mandate requiring independents to affiliate post-election, impacting the party’s representation after an emblem dispute last December.

The election body has assigned reserved seats to various parties, with specifics outlined for women and minorities. Yet, 22 women’s and three minority seats remain undecided, with potential implications for the Supreme Court.

This issue coincides with the President’s refusal to initiate the National Assembly session, further complicating the political landscape.
