WASHINGTON: Most Americans oppose the Iran war, with 57% calling the decision to enter the conflict wrong and 27% describing it as right, an Economist/YouGov poll found.
The survey, conducted from July 10 to 13 and published on July 14, showed that opposition had increased since April. Net support fell to minus 30 points from minus 21.
However, MAGA Republicans remained firmly behind the war. Some 77% called it the right decision, while 5% said it was wrong.
The poll found a widening divide among Republicans. Overall, 63% of Republicans supported the decision, but non-MAGA Republicans opposed it by 51% to 31%. Their net position shifted from plus 18 points in April to minus 20 in July.
Democrats opposed the war by 89% to 5%. Independents recorded net support of minus 52 points, compared with minus 42 in April.
Americans also expected the conflict to continue. Some 46% said it would last at least another year, while only 8% believed it would end within a month or had already ended. That figure stood at 20% in March.
