Canadian rapper Drake reportedly placed a $1.5 million bet on Argentina to defeat Spain in regulation time in Sunday’s FIFA World Cup 2026 final.
The wager would return $5.175 million if Argentina win within 90 minutes. The final is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Drake has publicised large wagers on football, mixed martial arts, the National Basketball Association and Formula 1 events previously.
His latest selection revived social media references to the so-called “Drake curse,” a fan-created superstition claiming that teams or athletes backed by the rapper often lose.
One widely cited example followed Drake’s support for Conor McGregor before the Irish fighter lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in 2018. An estimated 37.2% success rate for Drake’s public bets.
Spain entered the final as the favourite in a prediction attributed to Opta’s tournament model, while Drake backed defending champions Argentina.
