Dr. Samreen Hussain, Vice Chancellor of Dawood University of Engineering and Technology and wife of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Dr. Asim Hussain, escaped injury after her car was fired upon in Karachi’s Orangi Town on Tuesday. The attack occurred before she entered her vehicle, confirmed a university spokesperson.
Dr. Samreen disclosed that she was at a college in Orangi Town preparing for Independence Day celebrations. “I visited the college for tomorrow’s celebration when unidentified assailants entered the premises and fired at my car,” she explained. The gunfire damaged the car’s radiator while Dr. Samreen quickly sought safety back inside the college.
Police responded promptly to the incident. West Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Irfan Baloch suggested the shooting might have been a robbery attempt, but he noted it was too early to determine the exact motive.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori noticed the attack and expressed his concerns. He has called for a thorough investigation and assured those responsible will be held accountable. Governor Tessori emphasized the commitment to justice, especially as Dr. Samreen is a respected Tamgha-e-Imtiaz recipient.
