DIG Mazharul Haq Kakakhel, working as director FIA and  Counter-Terrorism Wing (CTW), submitted Rs 6.5 million to NAB as Voluntary Return (VR) in the weapons and equipment procurement scam of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

A list submitted to the Supreme Court by NAB to a bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali in hearing a suo motu case on voluntary return, it was revealed that Mazharul Haq Kakakhel director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Islamabad returned Rs 6.5 million to NAB as Voluntary Return (VR) in the weapons and equipment procurement scam of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa worth billions of rupees.

It is pertinent to mention that under Section 25(a) of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999, a person after paying back the ill-gotten money can go scot-free without facing any criminal charge.

Kakakhel while talking to local newspaper ‘The New’ alleged that he was made a ‘fool’ by the NAB at that time when he entered into VR.

“When I returned from Saudi Arabia, NAB asked me to submit Rs6.5 million within three days or face the music on the pretext of having evidences against me that the amount was taken by someone against his name in weapons scandal case”, he claimed. He added, “he trusted the NAB and submitted Rs6.5 million as VR but later learnt that the Bureau had played a bluff on him”

Next hearing of the case will be held on October 24.

I think Mian Mazharul Haq Kakakhail is a straight forward and a man of principles. I know him from his childhood as my student. He was the produce of first badge of O level in 1988 from Fazlehaq College. Being a Pakistani, I appeal the Supreme Court to give him the right to prove his innocence and I strongly believe he will definitely be walking away with respect and dignity. Being his teacher, I trust him 100 percent.
