SACRAMENTO, California: Pakistan-US ties won unanimous backing in the California State Senate on August 11 through a resolution recognising Pakistani-American contributions.
Pakistan’s Press Information Department said State Senator Melissa Hurtado presented the measure. The text celebrated the countries’ “enduring relationship” and recognised Pakistani-Americans’ role in California’s economy, culture and social fabric.
The California State Assembly adopted a separate resolution promoting relations with Pakistan. It highlighted Pakistani-American businesses and investors as contributors to economic cooperation between California and Pakistan, the department said.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh attended the Senate proceedings during an official visit to California.
The department said he thanked Hurtado and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deeper people-to-people ties.
Assemblymember Matt Haney announced the Assembly resolution and recognised Sheikh’s work to promote bilateral relations, according to the department.

Sheikh also met California lawmakers to discuss trade, investment and economic cooperation. He invited members of both chambers to visit Pakistan, the department said.
The Council of Pakistan, led by Dr Imran Sharief, supported efforts to secure the Senate resolution, the department said.
