The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has dismantled a section of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Central Secretariat in Islamabad, citing breaches of building regulations.
The CDA’s controversial action has sparked criticism from the political party founded by Imran Khan.
According to the CDA, their anti-encroachment team initiated a late-night operation around 11:30 PM on Thursday. The operation lasted approximately an hour and aimed to remove unauthorized structures and encroachments.
The CDA’s statement highlighted that the encroachment involved a plot officially registered to Sartaj Ali. The authority noted that an additional floor had been constructed illegally on the site. Despite issuing multiple notices to PTI regarding the violations, the CDA claimed the party did not comply.
In response to the demolition, PTI mobilized its supporters, urging them to converge at the secretariat. The party condemned the government’s actions as “illegal and unjust.” Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan refuted the CDA’s assertion that multiple notices had been sent, stating that the party had not received such communications.
