On Monday, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) organized a protest in Karachi against the arrests of leaders like Dr. Mahrang Baloch and the violent crackdown on a sit-in in Quetta.

The BYC protest in Karachi is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) but faced significant resistance. Police intercepted supporters at Fawara Chowk while attempting to detain activist Sammi Deen Baloch and others. As a result, roads around the KPC, including Din Muhammad Wafai Road to MR Kiani Chowrangi, were closed, according to a statement from the Karachi Traffic Police regarding security measures.

On March 24, 2025, Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi imposed Section 144, which bans gatherings citywide. This decision followed a recommendation from DIG Syed Asad Raza on Sunday, which highlighted potential traffic and security risks.

Traffic reroutes via Court Road and Sarwar Shaheed Road were advised, and a helpline of 1915 was offered. Meanwhile, counter-protests emerged near the KPC and Zainab Market, slamming BYC and the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) with slogans and placards like “BLA and BYC: Two sides of the same coin.”

BYC Protest Karachi Meets Resistance

The unrest stems from Saturday’s arrests in Quetta, where Mahrang Baloch and 16 activists were detained after alleging three deaths in a police clash. A Quetta BYC protest was set for noon. Despite Section 144, counter-protesters rallied unchecked, raising questions. The BYC protest in Karachi highlights escalating tensions over rights and state response.
