Belgium beat Senegal 3-2 after extra time in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 in Seattle on Wednesday, with Youri Tielemans scoring a 125th-minute penalty.
Senegal led 2-0 through Habib Diarra and Ismaïla Sarr before Belgium staged a late comeback. Diarra opened the scoring after reacting first to a rebound from Sarr’s header.
Sarr doubled Senegal’s lead six minutes after half-time after controlling Moussa Niakhaté’s long pass and finishing beyond Thibaut Courtois.
Belgium brought on Romelu Lukaku at half-time, and he scored from a Thomas Meunier cross in the 86th minute. Tielemans equalised three minutes later after Mory Diaw failed to deal with Leandro Trossard’s delivery.

The Aston Villa midfielder then won a penalty in extra time after a challenge from Lamine Camara. Referee Said Martinez awarded the spot-kick after a VAR review.
Tielemans converted to complete Belgium’s comeback and send Senegal out of the tournament.
Belgium advanced to the last 16 and could face the United States, who were due to play Bosnia and Herzegovina later Wednesday.
