The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed Babar Azam’s resignation as Pakistan’s white-ball captain after five years. Babar submitted his resignation on Tuesday evening, which the board promptly accepted.
While the PCB had supported Babar as captain, they respected his decision to step down to enhance his batting focus. The national selection committee is now responsible for devising future white-ball strategies and selecting a new captain.
The PCB commended Babar’s leadership qualities, noting his professionalism and dedication. “He is determined to dedicate more to his batting, aiming for a more pivotal role in our success in the shorter formats.”, the PCB stated.
Babar himself shared his sentiments about playing for Pakistan. “It’s always been my greatest honour, and I’ve prioritized team success above all,” he said. “Stepping down will allow me to contribute more effectively as a player. I’m fully committed to this new direction.”
“I’ve been privileged to lead Pakistan for five incredible years, striving to excel as captain and player. I’m thankful for the support from my teammates, coaches, and the PCB during my captaincy.”
The PCB supports Babar’s decision and anticipates his continued influence as a senior player in the team.
