Washington, United States: Thirty-five former federal judges asked a court Wednesday to reopen a Trump IRS case tied to the $1.776 billion anti-weaponisation fund.
The judges called the deal potentially fraudulent and urged US District Judge Kathleen Williams to set aside her dismissal order.
The Justice Department announced the fund last week to settle President Donald Trump’s lawsuit over leaked tax returns.
The deal would pay people who claim the government targeted them through “weaponisation.”
The judges said the parties dismissed the case before Williams could review whether a real legal dispute existed. They also noted that Williams’ order said: “There is no settlement of record.”
