The competition in artificial intelligence is intensifying. AI startup Anthropic has signed a massive new deal with Google to secure computing power.

The agreement gives Anthropic access to up to 1 million of Google’s custom AI chips. This computing capacity is worth tens of billions of dollars.

The deal provides Anthropic with over one gigawatt of computing capacity. This power will come online in 2026. It will be used to train the next versions of Anthropic’s Claude AI model. The startup will use Google’s Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), which are chips traditionally reserved for Google’s own use.

Anthropic stated it chose Google’s TPUs for their efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The company already has experience using these processors for its current Claude models.

This deal highlights the huge demand for computing power in the AI sector. Companies are in a race to develop more advanced systems. Rival OpenAI is also securing vast computing resources. Recent deals for the company may involve over one trillion dollars to power its growth.

Google will also provide additional cloud computing services to Anthropic. This partnership strengthens the ties between the startup and the tech giant.
