Hyderabad : There is an urgent need to amend the Child Marriage Restraint Act of 1929 and steps should be taken to discourage child marriage, said Syeda Qurat-ul-Ain, the Incharge Psychologist of Women Complaint Cell of Sindh Women Development department here on Tuesday.

She said that child marriage not only affect the health of children but push them in psychological problems as well. She talking to APP Tuesday said that child marriage has become a serious social problem that needs much attention to get it resolved. She said that our coming generation depends on the healthy mother to give birth to healthy child for a disciplined society.

Syeda qurat-ul-Ain claimed that the mortality rate among mothers increased by up to 10 per cent due to early child marriages. She said that it is estimated that 30 percent of all marriages fall into the category of child marriage which is more common in interior Sindh than in other parts of the country.
