Ali Nasir Rizvi, a Grade 20 officer, has officially assumed his role as the new Chief of Police in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, 22 days after his initial appointment.
Rizvi’s assumption of office follows a contentious dispute between the Federal Ministry of Interior and the Punjab government over transferring his services to the Establishment Division. The transition has sparked significant controversy within the Capital Police Force.
Journalist Asad Ali Toor reported on the social media platform X that a dispute has arisen within the ranks of the Islamabad police force following the appointment of the new Chief of Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi.
According to Toor, several high-ranking officers, including DIG Headquarters Hassan Raza, DIG Security Muhammad Owais, and DIG Safe City and Traffic Police Shoaib Janbaz, have commenced a work stoppage in protest. These officers assert that Rizvi, their junior, is not suitable to lead them, thereby expressing their unwillingness to serve under his command. This stance marks a notable discord within the police force, highlighting challenges in leadership succession and internal hierarchy.
This internal discord highlights the challenges faced by the Islamabad Police Force in maintaining stability and continuity within its leadership ranks.
