Ali Mardan Domki, hailing from the Lahri area of Balochistan, has now been designated as the caretaker chief minister.
Ali Mardan Domki’s political lineage can be traced back to his father, Mir Hazor Bakhsh Domki, a former senator who represented the people between 1975 and 1977.
Parliamentary Stalemate and Decision
In a quest to finalize the caretaker position’s name, the committee members’ initial discussions saw no consensus. Speaker Balochistan Assembly, Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali, had established the panel.
It was a direct result of fruitless negotiations that spanned three days between the outgoing Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and Malik Sikandar Khan, the Opposition Leader in the now-dissolved assembly. However, a breakthrough was achieved, and the summary concerning Domki’s appointment received approval from Balochistan Governor Malik Abdul Wali Khan Kakar.
The Balochistan Assembly’s tenure ended on August 12, marking its five-year legislative journey. This dissolution has set the gears for implementing a caretaker regime, which is crucial for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to oversee the upcoming general elections. However, voters in Balochistan might have to wait a little longer than anticipated.
The ECP has indicated the commencement of the delimitation process, slated for completion by mid-December, suggesting that the election date will likely be pushed to a few months later.
