AIG Karachi claims major crimes down by 70-percent

Karachi: Additional Inspector General Police (AIGP) Karachi, Mushtaq Mahar admitted on Saturday that terrorist sleeper cells are still present in the city.

Addressing a press conference on the completion of two years of the Karachi operation, AIG Mahar said the sleeper cells must be eradicated.

He added, that accountability among the ranks and file of the police department has already begun and 1000 policemen have been black-listed.

The AIG said the operation was launched to curtail four types of major crimes, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, target killing and terrorism have gone down by approximately 70%.

He added, that the operation must continue until the remaining 30-35% criminal activities have been eradicated.
