ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has introduced online document attestation at its headquarters and liaison offices, effective Monday, with electronic certificates delivered by email.
MoFA issued a circular on Wednesday covering general and apostille attestation via participating liaison offices in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and Gujrat.
Citizens can submit applications and supporting documents electronically through the ministry’s General Attestation & Apostille Portal. Applicants can also manage and track their requests through the platform.
Ministry staff review submissions and verify the documents. Applicants receive notification of the outcome before paying the prescribed fee online.
After completing the required procedures and payment, the ministry issues an electronic attestation certificate and emails it to the applicant. Some cases still require an in-person appearance.

According to the ministry, the system aims to reduce repeated office visits and make attestation more accessible. Officials expect fewer queues and lower travel costs for applicants.
The ministry has instructed its officers to encourage electronic submissions for both attestation services.
