The US strikes Iran campaign entered a 13th consecutive night early Friday, July 24, hitting military and maritime targets as President Donald Trump threatened further action over attacks on shipping.

United States Central Command said the operation ended shortly before 5 am in Iran, equivalent to about 6:30 am Pakistan Standard Time. It said the strikes aimed to reduce Iran’s ability to threaten commercial vessels and civilian crews in regional waters.

Iranian state media reported explosions in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, Ahvaz, Omidiyeh and other locations. Four people were killed and five were wounded near Ahvaz, while two people were reportedly injured in Bandar Abbas.

The attacks followed claims by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis that they struck two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea. The incidents threatened another major trade corridor as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remained disrupted.

Trump said Washington would hold Iran responsible for further Houthi attacks and warned of major military punishment against both. He also announced that Iranian funds under US control would pay for damage to ships, cargo and related assets.

The US administration did not explain the legal process it would use to access and spend the frozen funds. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that confiscating state assets would establish a dangerous precedent.

Brent crude rose above $100 a barrel as the combined risks in the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz increased concerns over energy supplies and shipping costs.
