Around 70 individuals sustained injuries due to aerial firing across various neighborhoods of Karachi as revelers celebrated Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day on Tuesday night.
The festivities, marked by midnight gunfire, led to multiple injuries but fortunately no fatalities.
The injured, including women and children, were reported from several areas such as Mauripur Road, PIB Colony, Old Golimar, Korangi, Jamshed Quarter, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Lyari, and Malir. Additional incidents were noted in neighborhoods like Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Nazimabad, Sharifabad, Lyari, Pak Colony, Akhtar Colony, Old Golimar, Korangi Industrial Area, Landhi, Mahmoodabad, Shahrah-e-Noorjahan, and Hydari.
The nation celebrated its independence with enthusiasm, pledging to continue the spirit of the Pakistan Movement and strive towards realizing the vision of a true Islamic welfare state. Festivities included decorating buildings and homes with colorful lights and the national flag, significantly altering the city’s nighttime appearance along major highways.
The occurrences of injuries due to aerial firing are a recurring issue during celebrations, echoing last year’s events where over 80 people were injured and two lives were lost in similar incidents across different areas of Karachi including Lyari, Garden, Landhi, Korangi, Mehmoodabad, New Karachi, Bilal Colony, and Garden.
