ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Islamabad High Court directed the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency to disclose the allegations behind the Asad Toor summons on July 31.
Justice Mohammad Azam Khan issued the direction while disposing of the journalist’s petition. Toor challenged the summons on July 30 through Advocate Attaullah Kundi. His petition argued that the agency had failed to meet legal requirements or to provide specific details of the alleged conduct.
Kundi told the court that Toor could not prepare a response without knowing the exact allegations. He asked the NCCIA to provide the relevant details and supporting material in advance.
The agency issued the notice on July 29 and ordered Toor to appear at its Cybercrime Reporting Centre in Islamabad at 11 am on July 31.

The notice concerned an inquiry into the alleged dissemination or public display of false information. The agency cited Section 26A of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and identified the complainant as the state.
The National Press Club condemned the summons as a threat to press freedom. It urged authorities to withdraw the notice and protect journalists’ constitutional and legal rights.
Authorities previously arrested Toor under the electronic-crimes law in February 2024 over an alleged campaign against state institutions. A court released him the following month.
