Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan is expected to replace Sarfraz Ahmed as Test head coach after Pakistan’s 2-0 World Test Championship series defeat in Bangladesh, PCB sources said. The prospect of Younis Khan Test coach taking over has generated significant discussion among cricket fans.
Sarfraz was appointed in April and began the role with the two-match away series against Bangladesh. Pakistan lost both Tests, extending its poor run against the same opposition in the longest format. As a result, speculation has grown that Younis Khan’s Test coach could be the right fit for turning things around.
The expected change comes as the Pakistan Cricket Board considers a wider Test-side reset. Captain Shan Masood could also be removed, with all-rounder Salman Ali Agha tipped as a possible successor.
Younis, who led Pakistan to the 2009 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title, is also expected to join the national men’s selection committee. The current panel includes Aqib Javed, Misbah-ul-Haq, Asad Shafiq and Sarfraz. This further adds to the experience that Younis Khan’s Test coach brings to the Pakistan setup.
Sarfraz, who captained Pakistan to the 2017 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy title, is expected to continue working with Pakistan Shaheens, sources added.

Former all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez is also likely to receive a senior Pakistan Cricket Board role. Sources said Hafeez could become Director of International Cricket. This position has been vacant since the suspension of Usman Wahla in September last year.
Hafeez, who played 55 Tests, 218 One-Day Internationals and 119 Twenty20 Internationals for Pakistan, is also expected to join the men’s selection committee. In summary, the possible appointment of Younis Khan as Test coach could mark a new chapter for Pakistan cricket.
