Islamabad: Youm-e-Ashur Pakistan was observed on Friday, June 26, 2026, with mourning processions held across the country under tight security.
The 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram, 1448 AH, honours the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.
Alam, Taazia and Zuljanah processions took place in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and other cities.
Authorities deployed police and paramilitary personnel along major routes. Officials sealed sensitive streets, restricted entry points and used walkthrough gates for security checks.
Mobile phone and internet services remained suspended in some areas. Authorities said the curbs were aimed at preventing security lapses during major processions.

Religious scholars delivered sermons on patience, sacrifice, unity and inter-sect harmony. Speakers also urged citizens to avoid rumours and provocative behaviour.
President Asif Ali Zardari said Ashura reminds Muslims of sacrifice, truth and steadfastness. He urged citizens to promote peace, tolerance and brotherhood.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Hazrat Imam Hussain’s (RA) stand offered a lasting lesson in justice and human dignity. He called on scholars, media and youth to spread the message of Karbala.
The federal government had declared June 25 and 26 as public holidays for Ashura. Provincial administrations also issued traffic plans and security advisories for major processions.
In Karachi, Sindh, processions moved through designated routes under police monitoring. In Lahore, Punjab, mourners joined traditional gatherings and processions under strict security checks.
Officials advised citizens to follow traffic diversions and cooperate with law enforcement personnel. They also asked the public to report suspicious activity to local authorities.
Youm-e-Ashur observances in Pakistan ended with prayers for peace, national unity and stability across the Muslim Ummah.
