Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Pyongyang on Monday for a state visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and received a formal welcome from Kim Jong Un.
Kim, president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, greeted Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, at the airport with his wife, Ri Sol Ju.
Kim later hosted a grand welcome ceremony for Xi at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang, according to Xinhua.
The two leaders mounted a review stand as a 21-gun salute sounded. A military band played the national anthems of China and the DPRK.
Xi inspected the honour guard of the three services of the Korean People’s Army with Kim. The two leaders also watched a march-past.

People lined the streets from the airport to Kim Il Sung Square and the Kumsusan State Guesthouse. Many waved flags, flowers and balloons to welcome the Chinese delegation.
In a signed article published Monday in Rodong Sinmun before his arrival, Xi said he looked forward to discussing traditional friendship and the development of bilateral relations with Kim.
