A recent visa ban imposed by the Gulf nation has dashed the aspirations of Pakistani nationals seeking job and business opportunities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
UAE authorities had initially attributed the ban to concerns over social media activities and criminal incidents. However, further revelations from official documents disclosed more reasons for this decision.
These documents, shared with the Pakistani embassy, emerged from a UAE cabinet meeting that addressed complaints about the behaviour of some Pakistani citizens. These concerns include participating in protests, criticizing UAE government policies online, and misusing digital platforms, all of which are perceived as harmful to the UAE’s reputation.

The documents also cited increased allegations of identity document forgery, including tampered identity cards and passports, primarily by Pakistani nationals. Furthermore, they noted a higher prevalence of criminal activities such as theft, fraud, begging, and drug-related offences among this group compared to other nationalities.

The Pakistani embassy has since relayed these concerns to Islamabad through an official report, calling for urgent measures to address these matters.

This development has prompted discussions within the Pakistani community in the UAE, many of whom are law-abiding and contribute positively to the local economy. There is also a growing call for constructive dialogue and cooperation to resolve the situation, given the significant impact of the visa ban on thousands of families and businesses reliant on Pakistani workers in the UAE.
