Islamabad: Voting for the election of the Speaker of the National Assembly is taking place at today with the contest between PMLN’s Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and the PTI’s Shafqat Mahmood.
The ruling party’s candidate and former Speaker Ayaz Sadiq is likely to come out victorious as the PMLN enjoys 188 seats in the house of 342 and he has the support of the FATA members as well as the MQM.
The first vote was cast by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. PTI Chairman Imran Khan also arrived at the National Assembly to cast his vote.
Ayaz Sadiq’s election from NA122 was declared void by the election tribunal on the request of the PTI chairman on the 21st of August this year, however Sadiq was reelected from the same constituency in the by-election.
