WASHINGTON: US Vice President JD Vance said Washington had entered a “new phase” with Iran, describing economic pressure as the administration’s most effective tool against Tehran.
Speaking on “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show,” Vance said the strategy involved what he called a “delicate dance” between the two countries.
“We apply economic pressure to them; they’re going to try to apply economic pressure to us,” Vance said.
He added that Washington intended to maintain that pressure because the administration viewed it as the best way to achieve its broader objectives.
Vance also said preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remained the central US goal. According to the supplied material, he said the administration’s focus was ensuring Tehran did not acquire such a weapon.
Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that Washington planned to announce intensified economic measures against Iran the following week.
