WASHINGTON: Independent US presidential candidate Diane Sare backed proposed US-Russia talks between lawmakers, arguing that direct dialogue could help reduce distrust between Washington and Moscow.
Sare told Russian state news agency TASS on August 23 that American lawmakers should meet their Russian counterparts and visit Russian cities. She accused mainstream US news organisations of promoting hostility towards Russia.
The candidate said lawmakers could explore cooperation in space research and infrastructure, including the long-discussed Bering Strait tunnel. These proposals remain political suggestions, and neither government has announced related negotiations.
Sare also linked renewed dialogue with domestic concerns over energy and food costs. She claimed cooperation with Moscow could help Washington address the Iran conflict but provided no details about a possible Russian role.

Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida told TASS on July 24 that a congressional delegation planned to visit Russia during autumn or winter. She said the lawmakers would discuss peace, trade and rebuilding bilateral ties.
Luna did not disclose the delegation’s members, itinerary or travel dates, citing security concerns. Her official congressional website had not published a detailed announcement of her visit by August 23.

The proposed trip would follow meetings between a five-member Russian State Duma delegation and US officials in Washington on March 26 and 27. TASS said Luna invited the Russian lawmakers, but no joint agreement emerged from those meetings.
