Russia’s arms shipments to Iran include TNT, ammunition and drone parts sent across the Caspian Sea, NBC News reported, citing a European government document and a Western official.

The supplies are intended to help Tehran rebuild weapons stocks damaged by US and Israeli strikes, according to the document. Moscow and Tehran have not publicly commented on the reported shipments.

The Caspian route links Russia and Iran without passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The sea borders Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.

Western military forces do not operate in the Caspian Sea, according to the supplied report. The route therefore limits options for outside naval interception.

Israel tried to disrupt the supply line in March 2026, the source said. Israeli aircraft struck the Bandar-e Anzali port complex on Iran’s northern Caspian coast.

The attack damaged ships and port facilities, according to the report. Intelligence sources indicated that military shipments later resumed.

The reported transfers mark a shift in military support between the two countries. Iran had previously supplied Russia during the war in Ukraine, while Moscow is now helping Tehran rebuild parts of its arsenal. Western agencies are still assessing damage to Iran’s military infrastructure.
