US automakers could begin producing missiles and other military equipment as Washington expands domestic defence manufacturing, President Donald Trump said at the White House on June 23.
Trump said companies with excess industrial capacity could enter agreements to make weapons, including Patriot and Tomahawk missile systems.
Trump said General Motors had shown a strong interest in weapons production. He said the company operated several facilities that could potentially be converted for military use.
