Islamabad: Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his way back from Indonesia would make a stopover at Islamabad on Saturday and would meet Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

Both the leaders will hold discussions on enhancement of bilateral relations, on global and international issues of mutual interest, a Foreign Office statement said on Friday.

This would be Erdogan’s first visit to Islamabad as the President of Turkey. Earlier, he had visited Lahore and Islamabad in December 2013 as the Prime Minister of Turkey.

This was his seventh visit to Pakistan in last 10 years, signifying substantial growth and strengthening of relations under his government

“Pakistan deeply appreciates the personal contribution to the growth and expansion of Pakistan-Turkey relations under the sagacious leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan,” the statement said.

It said Pakistan’s relations with Turkey had seen tremendous improvement and dynamism in the last few years. Since the assumption of office by Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s government, bilateral relations have acquired a new direction and dynamism, it added.

“Most importantly, there is eagerness on both sides to translate our historic and cordial relations into a durable strategic and economic partnership,” the statement mentioned. – APP
