Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility earlier today for killing a Pakistan Army colonel in Phase III area of Peshawar.
“The Army official was targeted by a special unit of TTP,” organisation’s spokesperson Muhammad Khorasani said in a statement emailed to the media.
Colonel Tahir was shot dead by gunmen in the posh Hayatabad neighbourhood of Peshawar Sunday afternoon. The colonel, deployed in Rawalpindi, belonged to the Kaga Wala area of Peshawar and was in the city to attend a wedding.
“We were told the man was a service colonel and deployed in Rawalpindi,” said a local policeman. “He came to Peshawar to attend a wedding and was targeted near Abaseen Markaet.”
A security forces official said two brothers of Colonel Tahir had also been killed in the past.
Police have also registered a case against unknown assailants for killing Colonel Tahir.
