President Donald Trump of the United States said he will attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals in New York City on Monday night after an invitation from Knicks owner James Dolan.
Trump’s planned appearance at the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden will make him the first sitting US president to attend an NBA Finals game, according to media reports.
The New York Knicks will host the San Antonio Spurs after taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. The Knicks are seeking their first NBA title since 1973.
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office last week that he had followed New York’s Game 1 comeback. “I’ve been a Knick fan for a long time,” he said.
The visit marks a rare return to a Knicks courtside setting for Trump, who attended games at Madison Square Garden before entering national politics.
