Guinness World Records has acknowledged a family in Mexico for having a unique genetic condition known as Congenital Generalised Hypertrichosis (CGH), which has made them the most hairy family on record.
The family, consisting of 19 members, includes Victor Larry, Gabriel Danny, Luisa, and Jesus. These four exhibit significant hair growth on their faces and torsos. The condition affects both genders within the family, with females also displaying a noticeable amount of body hair, albeit lighter to medium in texture.
According to a post shared by the family, they have actively participated in scientific research to identify the gene responsible for CGH. Their cooperation has led to crucial discoveries, including links to several genetic markers on the X chromosome’s long arm.
The Guinness World Records website highlights this family’s condition as an extremely rare case of CGH, which is evident at birth and can either be congenital or develop over time. For this family, the trait is congenital and noticeable from birth.
Reports from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences indicate that CGH may also be accompanied by mild facial abnormalities, such as upwardly tipped nasal openings, a moderately protruding jaw, sporadic dental anomalies, and instances of deafness.
Furthermore, the National Library of Medicine notes that despite its natural occurrence, CGH can cause significant psychosocial distress due to the cosmetic disfigurement it entails.
