According to authorities, two policemen were fatally shot by unknown assailants in Mingora, Swat, amid a rise in terrorist activity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Since ending its ceasefire with Islamabad in November of the previous year, the banned militant group, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has escalated its assaults on security forces. Consequently, Pakistani security forces have intensified their counter-operations against militants, aiming to eliminate the resurgence of terrorism that had previously been suppressed.
The police confirmed that the two constables, Umra Khan and Ashraf Ali, were shot early in Mingora’s Sabzi Mandi area. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, later dying from their injuries.
Following the attack, the police initiated a search operation after securing the area, leading to the arrest of two individuals suspected to be involved. Additionally, reports suggest that three armed assailants implicated in the shooting are still at large, and efforts are underway to capture them.
It was reported that heavy gunfire was exchanged from both sides, with the police returning fire. Some accounts mention a rocket being launched at the remote post.
Police stations and posts in this region of Peshawar have been repeatedly targeted with automatic weapons and grenades in the past two years.
