The Supreme Court of Pakistan has reaffirmed its decision to terminate commercial operations, including those of Monal Restaurant, La Montana, and Gloria Jeans, within the boundaries of Islamabad’s National Park.
The Supreme Court dismissed all review petitions, challenging its earlier ruling to shut down business activities in this protected area.
On Tuesday, the court announced its reserved verdict, confirming the cessation of these businesses and explicitly rejecting any petitions for reconsideration. In its judgment, the court also rescinded previous remarks favouring the restaurants, notably removing a provision allowing Monal and others potential leasing advantages at alternative sites.
According to the judgment, representatives from Monal and other affected establishments had previously agreed in court to cease operations voluntarily within three months. The Supreme Court noted that the attempt to file review petitions despite this assurance was not only contemptuous but also an insult to the court’s authority.

Additionally, the court eliminated its earlier directive that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) should prioritise these businesses in the leasing process for other locations. The CDA has now been instructed to enforce the Supreme Court’s decision in full, ensuring the complete cessation of the said commercial activities within the National Park boundaries.
