Parowa police SHO Muhammad Nawaz Marwat, was suspended yesterday over his negligence with regard to the Chashma Sugar Mill tragedy in Ramak area of DI Khan where 10 people died of toxic fumes.
The victims were crossing the water channel flowing from Chashma Sugar Mill located in Ramak village of Tehsil Parowa towards Indus River when they inhaled toxic fumes. They subsequently fell unconscious and were rushed to the District Headquarters and Teaching Hospital where 10 people, including women and children, died while nine others were said to be affected.
Some of the victims included those individuals who were trying to rescue others. The toxic waste present in the water was supposedly released by Chashma Sugar Mill.
Later aggrieved people tried to set teh mills on fire but were forced to disperse after police baton charged them.
The case is under investigation and arrests have been made
