Karachi, Sindh: Two ships collided near Karachi port at night, causing several containers from MV Pappo to fall into the sea, port authorities said.

According to the Karachi port officials, at approximately 8:00 p.m. on May 28, 2026, a contact incident occurred between two vessels, MV Neva, flying the UAE flag, and MV Pappu, flying the Liberian flag, near the entrance of Karachi Port, outside the fairway buoy.

Fortunately, no loss of life or injuries were reported in the incident.

The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) immediately launched a large-scale rescue operation and deployed its four major tugs, MT Mithadar, MT Kharadar, MT Lyari, and MT Keamari. The tugs safely moved the affected vessel, MV Neva, to Karachi Harbour, where it was anchored for repairs.

The timely operation helped avert possible risks to shipping activity and the marine environment.

The rescue operation was supervised by Deputy Conservator Captain Abrar Arif, Harbour Master Captain Babar Saleem, and Dock Master Captain Hameed Khan Jadoon. Despite the Eid holidays, the swift response, sense of responsibility, and professionalism of KPT’s marine teams ensured the successful completion of the operation during the night between May 28 and 29.
