Senior Sindh Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party leader Sharjeel Inam Memon publicly critiqued the Punjab government’s short-term relief measures regarding electricity prices, raising concerns about the sustainability of these efforts.
During a press conference in Karachi, Memon highlighted the potential of Thar coal in achieving long-term energy affordability for Pakistan, contrasting it with the temporary relief offered in Punjab.
Memon pointed out the disparity between national electricity rate hikes and the provincial relief in Punjab, questioning the long-term plan after the initial two-month period ends. He criticized Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the nationwide increase in electricity bills while his brother, the Chief Minister of Punjab, provided only brief relief.
Further, Memon praised the vision and leadership of the late Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari, emphasizing their commitment to strategic, long-term benefits over short-term gains. He lamented the previous government’s decision to halt the Thar coal project, which the Sindh government initiated to serve the broader public interest.

Memon reaffirmed the PPP’s dedication to securing affordable energy for Pakistan, asserting that the most cost-effective electricity could be sourced from Thar coal. He also criticized the PTI leadership for engaging in conspiracies and questioned the motives behind their actions.
Additionally, Memon called out former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, accusing him of supporting the PTI’s agenda and urging him to return to Pakistan to address these allegations.
