Three prisoners fled a sub-jail in Duki, Balochistan, 200km from Quetta. This incident occurred just a day after 19 inmates, including six on death row, escaped from a prison in Rawalakot, Azad Kashmir, resulting in one fatality.
Duki police station SHO reported the trio escaped by breaking a washroom ventilator.
During morning hours, 13 under-trial prisoners at the sub-jail had access to the washroom, during which the escape occurred.
A search operation is underway for the escapees, identified as Asmatullah, Abdul Kabir, and Muhammad Sadiq, who, along with the overseeing prison warden and two guards, are subjects of an FIR for negligence.
Balochistan’s inspector general of prisons has initiated an investigation.
In Azad Kashmir, none of the 18 escaped inmates have been captured despite an intensive manhunt, use of drones, and a reward offer of up to Rs 10 million.
The AJK police chief, Rana Abdul Jabbar, confirmed exhaustive efforts to locate the escapees involving military and anti-terrorism forces.
Authorities have placed the escapees’ names on the National Information List to block foreign travel.
Additionally, Khawaja Sanaullah Dar has taken charge at Rawalakot district jail after his predecessor was suspended for security lapses. The absence of security cameras and daily visitor allowances contravened prison rules. A committee probing these breaches has interviewed inmates and officials.
