Karachi, Sindh, Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi fixed new Karachi flour prices on Wednesday. He set No. 2.5 flour at Rs 110 per kg wholesale and Rs 113 per kg retail.
According to the official notification, fine flour was fixed at Rs 118 per kg wholesale and Rs 121 per kg retail. Meanwhile, chakki flour was set at Rs 145 per kg.
Naqvi said the revised rates took effect immediately and directed shopkeepers to display official price lists prominently in their shops.
The commissioner warned that legal action would be taken against traders who violate the notified flour rates. He also warned those who fail to display the official list.
The Office of the Commissioner Karachi Division regulates commodity prices under the Sindh Essential Commodities Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act, 2005. This is in accordance with official rate-list notices.
The latest notification follows earlier price cuts announced by flour mill owners in March after the arrival of the new wheat crop. At that time, the Flour Mills Association said wheat rates had fallen from Rs 95 to Rs 85 per kg.
At the time, the association said No. 2.5 flour in Karachi had been reduced from Rs 107 to Rs 95 per kg. Additionally, fine flour fell from Rs 126 to Rs 114 per kg.
