The Supreme Court concluded its hearing of President Dr. Arif Alvi’s Reko Diq case reference.
A five-member bench presided over by Pakistan’s Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the case and will provide a decision on the presidential recommendation next week.
During the hearing, before reserving the verdict, the chief justice stated that the president had obtained legal counsel.
“The court will approach the issue of fundamental rights in the presidential reference with caution,” stated CJP Bandial.
He stated that Pakistan faces billion-dollar penalties and that the federal government complied with the Reko Diq agreement’s constitution and laws.
CJP Bandial is pleased that the Reko Diq agreement ensures international protection standards.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan stated that the absence of an illegal agreement in the Reko Diq project is a favorable element.
“All attorneys concur that Reko Diq is an open and public contract,” he continued.
In the meantime, the deputy attorney general stated that the arrangement was negotiated for three years.
Seventeen hearings were held on the Reko Diq presidential referral. The chief justice praised all legal assistants, assistant attorneys general, and attorneys.
