A strikingly pleasant change in scenery greets travellers entering the Bukhari Commercial Area in DHA Phase VI. The area shines with newly installed, brightly painted light poles adorned with artistic depictions of flowers, butterflies, birds, and penguins.
The streets boast uniformly paved, wheelchair-accessible footpaths featuring colourful panels, and the presence of constantly charged fire hydrants enhances safety. Greenbelts, wooden benches, additional seating near eateries, and well-organized parking spaces on pebbled plots contribute to the area’s orderly appearance. Signage throughout the area is clear and detailed, aiding navigation, while the roads are well-marked, including pedestrian zebra crossings.
Recently renovated, Bukhari Commercial now features pedestrian-friendly traffic signals with instructional boards for those unfamiliar with the new system.
The renovation, led by Member Councillor Rehan Iqbal Maggoo of Cantonment Board Clifton’s (CBC) Ward 5, was completed after six months of extensive work and opened at the end of Ramazan. This upgrade mirrors similar improvements made to Chhota Bukhari about a year earlier.
Mr. Maggoo explained that the renovation included comprehensive underground infrastructure work by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and Sui Southern Gas Company to prevent future disruptions for repairs.
The area’s transformation has also led to an increase in property values. Bukhari Commercial would serve as a blueprint for similar projects across other areas, citing support from CBC president Brigadier Shahid Zia, who provided significant freedom to implement these changes.
