VIENNA, Austria: The IAEA General Conference will bring more than 3,000 delegates to Vienna from September 14-18 for the International Atomic Energy Agency’s 70th annual policymaking gathering.
The Vienna International Centre will host leaders, scientists and national representatives from the IAEA’s 181 Member States. The agency has held the conference annually since 1957.
The plenary will open with statements from the United Nations Secretary-General and the IAEA Director General, followed by national statements from Member States.
Delegates will consider resolutions covering IAEA membership and budget, nuclear safety and security, and non-proliferation. Decisions adopted during the week will help shape the agency’s programme of work for the following year.
The conference will also feature the two-day Scientific Forum on “Rays of Hope” on September 15-16, focusing on progress in global cancer care.

Other events include laboratory tours, exhibitions and activities marking the first anniversary of the IAEA Visitor Centre in Seibersdorf.
The IAEA said up to 15,000 people worldwide will also follow conference proceedings through its livestream.
