For the first time in Pakistan’s history, a Hindu man, Rajender Meghwar, has been appointed as an officer in the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP).
Rajender Meghwar has begun his duties as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Faisalabad, stationed at the Gulberg police station.
Meghwar, originally from Badin—a disadvantaged area in Sindh—entered the police force after succeeding in the CSS exams. He expressed great satisfaction with his role, emphasizing his eagerness to serve the public. “I am thrilled that my dream of serving the people has come true,” he remarked.
He believes the police department offers unique opportunities to impact the ground, especially for his community. “In this role, we can address people’s issues directly, unlike in other departments,” he stated.
Police officials are optimistic about Meghwar’s appointment. They anticipate his presence will enhance law and order and effectively address minority issues. “Having a Hindu officer is a fortune for us. His role will greatly aid in promoting inclusivity in Faisalabad’s police force,” they commented.
In a related development, Roopmati, a woman from a minority community in Rahim Yar Khan, also passed the CSS exam. She aims to represent Pakistan’s positive image globally by working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
