The caretaker government of Punjab has increased the minimum wage for unskilled workers from Rs 25,000 to Rs 32,000 per month. This increase provides relief to workers who have been struggling with rising inflation.
The notification issued by the interim government announced that the minimum monthly wage had been raised by Rs 7,000.
Previously, in April last year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced an increase in the minimum wage of government employees to Rs 25,000. As a result, the Punjab government set the minimum wage at Rs 25,000 on April 22.
Asif Ali Zardari, the former president and co-chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), had proposed raising the minimum wage to Rs 35,000 on January 31, 2023.
Zardari stated that the decision regarding fixing workers’ salaries should be made at the government level, and it is the government’s responsibility to provide relief to the workers. He had also urged the government to take far-reaching steps to address the problems being faced by the masses.
