Professional tax will be collected by the Excise and Taxation (E&T) Department/Cantonments, said Sindh Secretary Excise and Taxation (E&T) Abdul Majeed Pathan yesterday.
He was responding to the concerns raised by businessmen at a meeting held at Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) over collection of professional tax by multiple authorities including KMC, Excise Department/ Cantonments.
In response to KCCI’s demand to waive off 0.85 per cent cess being charged at Karachi Airport whereas other airports of the country are exempted from this duty, Mr Pathan said that this issue would certainly be considered.
KCCI president Abdullah Zaki urged the Sindh government to withdraw 10pc General Sales Tax (GST) on security services provided by private security agencies.
He stressed the need for effectively dealing with double taxation on businesses located in cantonment areas, which is already being collected by the E&T Department and also being demanded by Cantonments.
